Decorating a baby nursery is a project parents-to-be look forward to. There is no need to spend a fortune to manage to create a cute, cozy and relaxing environment for your baby. The key is to be creative and innovative. Colors play a key role in such a project. Let us discuss some ideas you can apply, simply by using color blocks.

Step 1: Planning

First of all you need to plan it all out so as to be able to purchase the tools and materials required for the project. Start off by deciding the general color scheme. Then, purchase the paint, and some wood. You can even manage to buy ready-made colored blocks which you can also use as we shall be describing below.

Step 2: Painting

There are various ideas which you can apply within the concept of color blocks. You can first of all paint the walls of the nursery in such a way, by coloring the walls in differently colored squares next to each other. The effect that is created is very appealing. It is also a way of making the room look bigger, apart from being much more colorful.

The best thing is to use colors which are not dark. Light colors provide a sense of peace and tranquility. Mix and match different tones of the same color to bring out a nicer effect. The blocks which you paint can be of different sizes so as to bring out a greater contrast. It is also a good idea to stick a border or wallpaper made up of colored blocks.

Step 3: Creating Cabinets and Shelves

Colored blocks can also be used in the form of cabinets and shelves. It is relatively straightforward to build them yourself. Simply cut the wood and assemble in cubes of different colors. Practically all you need is some plywood boards cut and screwed together to form blocks. Paint them in different colors to create a more appealing atmosphere.

They can either be incorporated in a unit, or else dispersed here and there to store toys in them. The best thing is that you can customize them according to the shape and size you want. You can place them beneath a window, or pile them up to create a unit which is rather tall, or else hang them as a shelving unit. You can also decorate their sides by stencilling pictures, letters or numbers.

Step 4: Ready-made Color Blocks

There are also ready-made color blocks which you can buy. They come in different sizes and materials, including the traditional wood blocks, plastic blocks and the cushioned ones. The latter are soft and furry, and are ideal both for safe playing and for decorating purposes too. They are often educational as well since they often represent the letters of the alphabet or numbers.

Step 5: Playhouse

Blocks can also be used to build a playhouse where the child can play. It is not only an innovative decorative addition to the nursery, but also a great toy for the child.

Step 6: Carpeting

To complement the ideas where blocks are the main theme, it is best to choose a carpet which features a design made up of several squares and rectangles.

Step 7: Wall decor

Finally, create the baby's name from alphabet blocks and attach in a prominent area of the wall. You can also attach stickers with block shaped themes.
