Knowing how to decoupage fabric is something that is very important when it comes to decorating your home and furniture. You will find that being able to decoupage fabric will allow you to be able apply it to anything from pictures to fabric. The possibilities are endless whenever you learn how to decoupage fabric. Step 1 – Prepare

The first thing that you are going to have to do whenever you going to decoupage fabric is to make sure that the furniture that you are working on is both clear and level. You may need to sand down an area to make sure that this is done. Clean it and have it completely dry before you begin. You need this to be done so that the glue can properly do its job.

Step 2 – Cut

Whenever you are cutting the fabric that you are going to decoupage, keep in mind that it is going to stretch. This means that you are measuring it and begin to cut it, cut a little bit smaller than what you actually need it to be. Make sure that you do this right the first time as the fabric becomes very difficult to cut after it has been decoupaged. Also be completely sure that there are no frayed ends as this will make the project look messy and unfinished.

Step 3 – Add

Whenever it comes to adding the decoupage fabric there are a couple of ways that you can go about it. You can add the glue to the actual fabric or you can add it to your piece of furniture. Most think that it is easier to add the glue to the surface of the furniture before you begin. This will allow you to be able to move around the fabric in a way that you see fit. After you have it in a way that you want it to be, you can add the glue and set it into place. However, both ways are completely acceptable. It all comes down to what works best for you.

Step 4 – Glue

Whenever you are adding the glue, you will want to make sure that you add the right amount. You do not want to add so much that it comes out along the sides as this is something that can be quite messy. However, you want there to be enough so that the decoupage can stick to the surface. Add a good amount to the entire area that you are covering and give it time to dry before you attempt to do anything with it. Moving it before the paint is dry is something that can end up ruining the work that you just put into it.
