How to Install a Countertop Stove

A countertop stove is a kitchen upgrade that is fairly easy to do. All you need are some simple tools and a rudimentary knowledge of construction and the countertop stove will be in place in no time. The countertop stove is perfect for the homeowner that has ample counter space but not much wall space. This article will instruct you on how to properly install a countertop stove yourself.

Placement and Measuring

Where you place your countertop stove is very important. Take a good long and hard look at your counter space. Choose a spot where the countertop stove will not be in the way. You also need to make sure there is enough space for a hood, even a mock one, and a power supply. If you are using natural gas then an area closest to the gas is what you need and the same applies for an electric countertop stove. Your choice of an electric or gas countertop stove can also be determined by the cost of running the appliance.

When you have picked your area, clear the countertop of all items. Measure the counter space and mark it with your marker. You want to have at least 2 inches of clearance around the perimeter of the countertop stove. Once you have your measurements you can take them to your local home improvement store and purchase a countertop stove.

Cutting the Space

This crucial step requires light and space. Open the cupboards where the countertop stove is going to be located. Inspect the area under the counter. Use the small pry bar to pry the counter off of the frame. Be very careful so you do not damage the frame of the counter. Once the counter is loose you can use the saw to cut the counter around the perimeter that you drew previously. Pop out the cut counter and hammer the remainder in place. Put the countertop stove in place.

Installing the Countertop Stove

Turn off the electricity or the gas before installing the countertop stove. Before installing, consult the instructions that came with the countertop stove. Not every model is the same, so be sure you understand the requirements of the one you purchased. To keep the countertop stove from moving it needs to be secured to the counter with the appropriate screws.

Also, install any hardware that came with your countertop stove. Once turned off you can disconnect the gas line or locate the source for electrical power. This is where a good light source is very important as it will be dark under the counter. Attach the connections of the countertop stove to the gas or electricity. Replace and seal the countertop and switch the electricity or gas back on.
