A garage door opener keypad is something that is going to allow you to use your garage door without having to worry about a remote. This is something that is installed on the wall near the door and you will simply need to put in a code and the door will open and shut as you need it to. This is something that is not very difficult to install or use.

Materials Needed:

Step 1 – Location

The first thing that you are going to need to do is set a location set up for where you want your keypad to be. Typically, these keypads are put by the door to your home. This way, it is easy to get to and you will not have to walk far into your garage to get to the keypad. Choose a location that will work best for you.

Step 2 – Power

Once you have the location picked out, you are going to need to turn the power off to your garage door opener. You can do this through your breaker box. Make sure that the power is turned off before you move on to the next step. Failure to do so could result in severe electric shock.

Step 3 – Drill

Once you are sure that the power has been turned off, drill a hole in the location that you plan on putting your keypad. This will be your pilot hole that will go from the outside into the inside of your garage. The hole needs to be about ½ in size. Use an electric drill for this task as it is easiest.

Step 4 – Cable

Once your hole has been drilled, you will need to run your cable that is attached through your keypad and into the hole that goes through the inside of your garage. You will need to use your screwdriver and the screws that went along with it so that you can get the keypad properly mounted on the outside of your garage.

Step 5 – Connect Box

You are now ready to get the control box connected to your keypad. In order to do this, you will need to get the wire screwed into the terminal opening. It is a good idea to use a low voltage wire for this task. Depending on the model garage door keypad that you have, you may need 2 voltage wires. You are now ready to get your control box snapped back into place on the keypad. Make sure that you find a spot inside of your garage where you can mount the control box with screws that were included.

Step 6 – Finish Up

You are now ready to put the batteries into the keypad control box. Once the batteries are in, you will be able to turn the power back onto your garage door opener. After everything has been turned on, you are now ready to get the code that you wish programmed into your keypad.
