Installing a ceiling fan in a mobile home is a great way to improve air circulation in a confined space. Doing so will not only save energy and money, but will also remove the strain from the existing air conditioning system. There are plenty of ceiling fan designs and sizes to choose from that can give a unique look to any mobile home. The installation of a ceiling fan in a mobile home requires some do-it-yourself skills. It can be completed by following a logical sequence of steps.

Step 1 - Remove the Light Fixture

Locate the light fixture where the ceiling fan will be attached to the ceiling. Make sure the power to this light has been turned off. Use the screwdriver to unscrew the fixture. Store it away in a safe place until it is needed again. Take great care and time to make sure that all wires are disconnected from the light fixture. If this part is ignored, key wires may be ripped away from the ceiling when the previous light is removed.

Step 2 - Assemble the Ceiling Fan

Carefully remove the ceiling fan from its package. If it is not already factory assembled, put it together now. Most disassembled ceiling fans will simply require that the blades be attached and the wall mount (hanging bracket) be constructed so the fan will fit properly. Follow the recommended instructions carefully. Often, it is easier to leave the blade assembly until the unit is hanging in place, but that can be determined by the overall size of the fan.

Step 3 - Attach the Hanging Bracket

Use the screwdriver to attach the hanging bracket onto the back of the small box located at the top of the fan. Do so by using the screws and lock washers and follow the location points within the instructions that come with the ceiling fan. Once attached, place a small amount of pressure on the hanging bracket to ensure it is tightly fastened and unlikely to break.

Step 4 - Connect the Wires

Use the ladder and take as much time as is needed to connect the wires in the ceiling fan box to the wires that were previously connected to the light fixture. This step is important because it allows the electricity of the mobile home to power the fan motor. Usually, wiring is fairly straightforward. All you have to do is match the colors to join the connector block. Detailed schematics will be provided with the fan for further assistance. Be sure to cap combined wires to ensure a strong connection.

Step 5 - Secure and Hang

Make sure the ceiling box cover is closed once the wires have been connected. If it is too loose, tighten it. Use the mounted hanging bracket to hang the ceiling fan and turn it on to make sure the power is flowing fully. If the blades have been left until this stage, turn off the power and fit them before operating the fan again.
