How to Install a Wall Mounted Dehumidifier

A wall-mounted humidifier is an excellent way of regulating the humidity and helping to control the temperature in your home. Wall-mounted humidifiers are oftentimes part of the central air conditioning system in a home and are generally controlled by a control panel on the wall as well. A humidifier of this type is essential to keeping the wood and other materials in your home from becoming too dry during the winter months. Read on for a brief guide on how to install a wall mounted dehumidifier in your home.

Tools and Materials Needed:

  • Central wall-mounted humidifier system and installation instructions
  • Dedicated humidifier circuit and circuit breaker
  • Humidifier control panel and humidistat sensor
  • Screws and screwdriver or power drill
  • PVC drain line
  • Copper water line
  • In-line water filter

Step 1 - Select the Location for the Humidifier

The humidifier should be in an area that is centrally located in your home so that it will easily be able to regulate the humidity throughout the largest part of your house. You should also consider the electrical setup that will be necessary for the humidifier. If there are not sufficient electrical wirings in place, you may need to hire an electrician to come in and set up the area in a suitable way for the humidifier. This involves installing a dedicated humidifier circuit with an appropriate circuit breaker.

Step 2 - Set Up the Control Panel

The control panel for the humidifier should be in another centrally located part of the home. It should not be close to any heaters, air conditioner vents, or windows and doors. Attach the control panel to the wall using appropriate screws and a screwdriver or power drill. Attach the humidistat sensor that will help to communicate between the control panel and the humidifier by mounting it on top of the control panel. Ensure that the control panel has batteries to power it, or that it's attached to an electrical connection properly.

Step 3 - Set Up the Humidifier and Associated Hoses and Lines

Mount the humidifier on the wall using the screws that are included with the humidifier system and instructions. Be sure to avoid connecting it to the electrical source until you've mounted the other hoses and lines. Begin by attaching a PVC drain line to the base of the humidifier and running that line to a proper drainage area outside of your home. Attach the copper water line to the humidifier and connect it to a continuous water source. Finally, include an in-line water filter inside of the humidifier to help prevent the humidifier from being damaged by any mineral deposits in the water source.

Step 4 - Double Check Connections

Double check all connections and ensure that your humidifier is properly installed by checking it against the instructions that came with the humidifier system. When you're certain that there are no safety concerns, activate the humidifier and follow instructions to program it with the sensor and the control panel.
