How to Install Fiberglass Roofing Panels

Using fiberglass roofing panels is one option among the many that you can choose from for your roofing project. Installing fiberglass roofing panels, is not that much different than installing metal roof sheets, however, there are differences that are there.

Below you can explore the tools needed, as well as the steps that need to be taken to ensure a great end project when installing your fiberglass roofing panels.

Step 1 - Install the Moldings

The first thing you will want to do is to install your installation moldings onto your roof. You will want to use your drill, as well as some galvanized screws to mount them about every sixteen inches on the roof joists themselves. Galvanized screws are best to use, because this is what will give you the most secure, and best finish possible on your do it yourself roofing project.

Step 2 - First Panel

Take your first panel, and set it on the roof in the area that you will be placing them. You will want to make sure that the curve on the panels is flush over the moldings you have just secured into place with your galvanized screws.

Step 3 - Drill the Holes

Now you can take out your drill and drill bit, and start drilling the needed holes. Make sure you use your drill to drill the holes through the panel itself, as well as into the roofing boards themselves. You can secure the panel down by using a galvanized screw to attach it tightly into each hole that you drilled.

The one thing that you will want to be sure of is that you don't over tighten the screw allowing it to strip the threads off. This will turn your tightening step into the very opposite, as the threads are what holds it into place, and secures it tightly down. It can be tricky to make sure that it is tight enough but to also make sure you don't overtighten. It's a process that takes time, and caution.

Step 4 - Laying Out the Remaining Panels

Now that you have the first panel down, and attached securely, you can take the other panels, and place them next to each other. You will want to overlap them a tad, making it so the curves of the next panel should rest on the top of the curve of the previous panel.

You will end up with, or at least should end with rows that are overlapping one half foot width way. This is the correct position and lay out for a roofing project that turns out correctly in the end.

Step 5 - Repeat Process

Using your bit, and drill, secure it as you did with the first panel. Don't get out of order, and make sure to keep the overlapping in place. This will ensure that the panels are secure, and attached correctly.

Step 6 - Finish

Now all you need to do is make sure everything is tightened, and you should be finished. Great job.
