Knowing how to iron a tutu will help to save you a lot of hassle and money. There are some who will tell you can not iron the tulle in a tutu, but you can follow these instructions for a successful project.
Step 1 - Set Your Iron Correctly
Do not use a hot setting as you will simply melt the tulle. Set your iron to the lowest setting and allow it to heat up. If you are unsure the tulle will stand up to the heat, start with a fold near the center where no one will see it. Work slowly to ensure that you do each step with care.
Step 2 - Iron the Fabric
Press lightly and use lots of steam. The more steam you use, the less you will have to press down with your iron. You will steam out the wrinkles on your ballet tutu, and the iron will just speed it along.
Step 3 - Alternate Method
If you have a tutu of questionable quality, like from a costume, you may want to use a different method. Try hanging it in the bathroom while you take a shower as steam will relax most of the wrinkles. Any that persist may be able to be smoothed out between your hands while the fabric is still warm from the steam.
