How to Lay Brick House Siding

During a home makeover, using brick house siding for the exterior of the house is a good consideration. This home improvement will enhance the house’s appearance giving it a dramatic vintage look. Brick sidings are installed the same way as vinyl sidings and offers durability and low maintenance as well.

Installing brick sidings can be done in portions of the exterior of the home or to the entire area. Laying a brick house siding does not require a mason because mortar is not used anymore. The brick siding comes in sheets for easy installation. Below are the materials you need along with the instructions on how to lay brick house siding.

Step 1 - Remove the Existing House Sidings

Take out the existing sidings of the exterior that needs replacement. Remove all the screws that hold the sidings to the structure. Take caution in removing the existing sidings by not exerting too much force, so the structure will not get damaged.

Step 2 - Inspect Damaged Areas after Removal of Old Sidings

Once the siding is removed, inspect the area to check for holes or other damages to the vapor barrier, which protects the house from moisture build-up, caused by the removal of the sidings. Make repairs or replacements to any damages spotted right away.

Step 3 - Apply Construction Adhesives to the Brick Panels

The brick siding panels are ready for installation. Construction adhesive should be applied to the backside of the brick panel. Install the brick panels beginning from the rear and reaching the top when the sidings are attached to the structure. Make sure the grooves of the brick panels are aligned to the next panel installed so the panels get locked up for each panel to position in place.

Step 4 - Put Galvanized Screws into Old Holes

Place galvanized screws into the holes of the brick panels throughout the exterior of the structure. Utilize holes from the old sidings to put in the screws and do not drill new holes anymore.

Step 5 - Saw and Sand the Panel’s Edges

Using a hand-held saw, saw the edgings of two panels at a 45 degree angle for the corners then sand the uneven edges. For the brick pattern to match, the edges of the two panels must be aligned. Use construction adhesive to cling the two edges to meet at the corners.

Step 6 - Caulk Visible Holes

Look for any visible screw holes to fill in with caulk that resembles the color of the bricks. Caulk the window and door frames as well to give protection for moisture to seep in behind the brick sidings.

It is recommended brick sidings should be installed first on hard to install areas such as the windows then moving to the easier areas. The use of protective eye gear and working gloves is recommended to use for protection.
