Pea gravel is a type of a walkway that is very easy to install and beautiful to have. You will find that the durability is something that is hard to match when compared to many other walkways. You will not be giving up sturdiness for attractiveness as is usually the case with outer décor. Another great reason to consider this type of walkway is the fact that it is incredibly easy and quick to change at any time. If you decide you want different stones, this is something that is not going to be a long and drawn out process.

Pea Gravel
Sod Cutter

Step 1 – Lay Path
The first thing that is going to need to be done is the shape of the path needs to be laid out. The best way to do this is get out your garden hose. You can use this to get the sides laid out in a way that you see fit. A good tip to think about is the fact that straight or angular lines can come across too harsh. Try a gently curved line and see how you like it. Once you know how long you want the path to be and the shape has been decided on, you will need to get out your sod cutter so that you can get the edges of your path cut out.
Step 2 – Sod Removal
If you have any sod that needs to be removed from the path, you will need to get out your sod cutter and cut it into a checkerboard pattern. You will do this inside the borders of the path that you have cut out. Make sure that the sod is divided into 1 foot squares so that they can be removed easily. When you are removing the soil and the sod, you will need to do so at a depth of around 4 inches. After the path has been excavated, you are ready to begin with your pea gravel.
Step 3 – Pea Gravel
You will be able to find pea gravel at a crushed rock supplier or any landscape firm. Before you begin to lay down the pea gravel, it is usually a good idea to get a type of a weed barrier laid down. Not using a weed barrier will cause weeds to grow up in between your pea gravel and ruin the look as well as take away from its protection of the ground. Typically, something like newspaper will work really well. You will need to lay the newspaper down over the entire path. The newspaper will need to be a couple of sheets thick to work properly. Once the newspaper has been laid down, distribute the gravel over the whole area. Rake it out so that it smoothly fills up the entire area.
Step 4 – Considerations
It is always important that you practice safety. Steel toed boots and work gloves will help you with staying protected and preventing any injury that may occur during this task.
