How to Make a Pinecone Christmas Wreath

Many people hang a Christmas wreath on their door during the holidays, usually one made out of pine needles. Although this is a popular option, using a homemade wreath out of pinecones can add a special touch to the home this Christmas. Parents can make Christmas special by creating this homemade Christmas wreath with their children to hang on the door.

Tools and Materials Needed:

  • Styrofoam wreath
  • Glue gun with glue sticks
  • Pine cones
  • Wreath accessories—such as glitter, ornaments, etc.
  • Spray paint in desired color
  • Ribbon of desired color
  • Newspaper

Step 1-Paint the Pine Cones

Begin by painting the pine cones to the desired wreath color. The color should match the theme of decorations being used in the home. A good option would be to use dark green spray paint that matches the Christmas tree. Place the pine cones on newspaper and spray the paint on them until they are coated. Allow them enough time to dry before moving on to step 2.

Step 2-Attach the Pine Cones to the Wreath

Heat up the glue stick in the hot glue gun, and then apply glue to the base of a pine cone. Gently attach the pine cone to the Styrofoam wreath. Repeat with each pine cone until the wreath is completely covered. It is important to apply them in bunches, facing outward instead of up or down—this keeps the round shape of the wreath.

Step 3-Decorate the Christmas Wreath

Use the ornaments to decorate the wreath. Gold or silver glitter adds a festive touch. Small ornaments, such as plastic snow flakes, can be glued to the wreath for an extra special touch. The ribbon can then be tied into a large bow and glued to the bottom part of the wreath. A large, red ribbon with gold glitter adds a holiday touch to the wreath.
