A plumb line can prove beneficial for those who are undertaking building work, making it possible to ensure that lines and components are completely straight. Being able to make your own plumb line will help with a range of projects.
Step 1 – Measure
Start by measuring the entire length of the wall that you will be working on. Measure from the ceiling to the floor and use the result to cut the string to the necessary length.
Step 2 – Assemble
Assemble the plumb line by securely tying the weight you are using to the end of the string. Pull the string through a pile of chalk dust to coat it, making sure the color differs from the wall surface.
Step 3 – Install
With the pin at the other end of the string from the weight, secure it to the ceiling as close to the wall as possible. Make sure there are no obstructions that prevent it hanging straight down. The string can then be pushed back to the wall, which will leave a chalk line to act as a guide.
