Having extra cabinet space, such as a wood pot rack, is something everyone wants in their kitchen. Even if you have a nice selection of pots and pans, you will need a nice organized storage system for them. It looks more attractive and clean when your kitchen is in order. Cookware crammed in the cupboard is inconvenient as well as not as pleasant to look at. You can either purchase a pot rack from a home improvements store or you can make your own which is more cost efficient. This will free up a whole lot of room in your cabinets that can be used for other things. The tools and step-by-step guide for the job are listed below.
Step 1 – Measure the Board
Measure the length and width that you want the wood pot rack to be. Use the pencil to mark the measurements on the boards. These measurements will form a rectangular shaped pot rack. Next, measure the boards to determine if you want to make the rack more square.
Step 2 – Cut the Board
Cut the boards where you marked them with the pencil using the skill saw. When you are done, you should have two long boards and five short boards.
Step 3 – Drill the Board
Drill screws in the 2 longer boards and 2 of the short boards. This should form a rectangle shaped box. Next, take the other 3 short boards and use screws to attach them to the underneath of the box.
Step 4 – Paint the Rack
Apply the color of your choice to the wood pot rack and let it sit to dry. You can apply paint or stain.
Step 5 – Attach Screw Hooks
Take a screw hook and attach it to the top of each corner. You can add as many additional screw hooks as you like to the bottom of the rack.
Step 6 – Hang the Rack
Cut the chain to your desired lengths and attach them to all 4 screw hooks that are at the top corners of the rack. Use the screws to attach to the ceiling.
You can hang your pots and pans to the new rack, and you can use the top to store the lids, bowls and cups. Add as much decoration to the rack as you want – you do not have to limit to only stain or paint. One thing that you will want to do before hanging the rack by the chains is to find studs in the ceiling. If not, you can potentially find the rack and all of its contents strewn all over the floor one day. Ensure that the rack is hanging high enough to be walked under. You do not want anyone hitting their head on the pots and pans when they pass by it.
