Cellular shades are a fantastic way of blocking light out of your window. Cellular shades aren't to everyone's tastes. If you've just moved into your house and have found cellular shades, you might be interested in a way to turn them into something much more appealing and inviting.
Step 1 - Measuring
First, you need to measure the size of the cellular shade which is currently installed against your window. As they won't be suitable for everyone, you will need to think about the sizes so you can cut the right amount of fabric. Measure the height and width of the cellular blind and then add on a couple of inches so that you will be able to hem the fabric.
Step 2 - Marking Your Fabric
Next use your dimensions to mark the fabric so that you know which size you are cutting it to. You might want to make the fabric a little bigger to ensure that the blind is completely hidden from view. Then, using a pair of scissors, you can cut out the fabric so that it's the right size.
Step 3 - Hem
Either use a sewing machine to hem the fabric properly, or alternatively you can use an iron and some iron-on tape. Fold the fabric in by 2-inches and sandwich inside a piece of the iron-on tape.
Iron the fabric until the tape has fused the 2 pieces of fabric together firmly. You will then need to repeat this on the other sides.
Step 4 - Fixings
Using the same fabric, make some extra pieces which will be used to attach the fabric to the cellular shades. You will need extra fabric so that it can connect to the bottom of the cellular shade.
Step 5 - Fitting the Curtain
Now you're ready to fit your new window curtain cellular blind, place the blind in the fully closed position and fix the curtain onto the top of the blind. Use some Velcro tape which is cut to the right length to make this possible.
Secure the tie-ups using a paperclip by fixing it onto the cords. It might be necessary to experiment here until you get the best results.
