How to Make Cream with Hand Blenders
Making fresh whipped cream with your hand blender is an easy process that can improve the taste of your desserts ten-fold. Whipped cream is suitable to top off a nice fruit dessert or pie, or even as a frosting on cake, and is a great treat that tastes even more incredible when it is homemade. Follow these easy instructions to whip up some delicious whipped cream in just a few minutes.
Step 1 – Preparation
Before you start, chill your hand blender’s whisk attachment and the bowl you will use in the freezer for about 10 or 15 minutes. The cream should be in the refrigerator right up until the time you make the whipped cream.
Once your tools are chilled, pour the heavy cream into the bowl and add the sugar. Attach the whisk attachment to your hand blender. Most models of hand blenders have a mechanism that allows the attachment to snap into place. Twist the attachment onto the blender until it locks into place.
Step 2 – Begin Blending
To make a nice whipped cream, you will need to blend it on high speed for several minutes. Place the immersion blender into the heavy cream and turn it on to high speed. Within a couple of minutes it will begin to form soft peaks and gain in volume. Continue whipping, lifting the blender up and down in the bowl to thoroughly mix the cream and sugar.
Step 3 – Acquire Consistency
Real cream is much thicker than the commercial products available, so do not be tempted to stop whipping when it reaches a smooth consistency. Continue whipping the cream until it is super creamy and thick. Depending on what you are using the whipped cream for will dictate how thick you want it to be. If you will be topping a cake or other pastry dessert as an accompaniment, you will want to stop when the cream is light and fluffy. If you will be using the cream for cake frosting or to make a mouse, you will want to continue beating it until it becomes firm and stiff.
Step 4 – Use Whipped Cream & Cleanup
Once you reach your desired consistency, use a soft scraper spatula to transfer the whipped cream to another dish or your dessert. Press the button on your hand blender that removes the attachment and wash the attachment in warm soapy water. Wipe the hand blender’s wand down with a wet towel and soapy water. Dry completely before storing.
