Step 1 – Measure
The first thing that you are going to have to do is probably one of the most important things that you are going to have to do. You will find that measuring is something that is going to play a very important role in your project. Get your door frame measured accurately. You may find that measuring more than once is a great way for you to be able to make sure that your measurements are as accurate as possible.
Step 2 – Door Frame
You will need to purchase a door frame for this task. You will be able to find a door frame at just about any location that sells lumber. There are many different types of wood frames that you can choose from. Go with whatever suits you and your budget. You want your door to have a pre cut center. This is something that is going to make it much easier for you to get your door built and installed on your glass panels.
Step 3 – Frames
For the glass, you will be able to either make or purchase the frames for it. You will be able to purchase mullions at any lumber store. You will need to be sure that you get the same type of wood as you got for the door frame for this. If you have 4 light windows, then 2 mullions will be needed.
Step 4 – Mullions
Once you have purchased or made the mullions, you will need to get pre cut glass that fits the same dimensions as them. You will also then need to sandpaper the mullions down so that they will be able to fit the moldings of your door properly. Once you have done this, you are ready to install your mullions.
Step 5 – Mullion Installation
Lay your door onto the floor and drill holes into the frame’s corners and slide your mullions right into place. Wood glue will help to secure it into the holes. Let your mullions dry so that they cannot fall off.
Step 6 – Finish Up
You are now ready to get the glass pane glued on. The door should be flipped onto its side and then laid flat. Use rubberized glue to install your glass pane. Give it up to 10 minutes to dry and then put in the next mullion. Screw in your hinges and then repeat this process for your other door.
