Making glass Christmas tree ornaments is always fun and exciting. Not only are there lots of options to choose from, glass ornaments are also very stunning and elegant. Here are some of the glass ornaments that you can make on your own.
Tools and Materials
- 2 clear glass gems with flat bottoms
- Pallet knife
- Jewelry wire
- Wire cutters
- Clear jewelry glue
- Paper glue
- Clear bottle
- Colored sand
- Foam shapes
- Metallic accents
- Colorful pipe cleaners
- Colorful feather
Step 1 – Create Glass Gems with Images
Print a holiday image on each side of a piece of card stock, or print on two pieces of card stock and glue back-to-back. Cut the card stock into a perfect circle with size a little smaller than the glass gems. Rub the glass gems with a soft dry cloth to remove any fingerprints or dirt. On the flat side of one gem, put a thin layer of clear jewelry glue that will dry clear. Spread the glue using a pallet knife. Place the image on the glass gem, applying pressure to secure it in place. Spread the jewelry glue on the other gem before pressing it onto the first one with the image.
Align the edges before the glue dries up. Allow for the glass gems to dry the whole day. The next day, wrap around a wire around the gutter between the two gems. Loop it into a hole where you can insert a ribbon that will be used for hanging the decor.
Step 2 – Make a Christmas Glass Bottle Decoration
Pour colored sand into a clear glass bottle until it is half-full. Fill the rest of the space with decorative elements such as glitter, foam shapes, shells or beads. Make sure that the items you put inside are colorful. It is better if they are related to the holiday season.
Next, decorate the bottle by wrapping fluffy pipe cleaners on the top part of the bottle near the opening. Finish off by inserting colorful beads on the ends of the pipe cleaners.
Step 3 – Dress Up Old Glass Ornaments
Get old Christmas glass balls from the storeroom. Dust them off and clean using a damp cloth, and let dry. Once they are dry, take off the top cap so you can fill with colorful items. One idea would be to fill up the glass ball with feathers, lace, metallic accents or beads. Another option would be to apply glue all over the ball and sprinkle with glitter. Tie with a ribbon on top so you can hang it on the Christmas tree.
