Grout is what makes your tiles stick together so it is an important material, but not everyone wants white, egg shell white, or dull tan for their grout color. Most over-the-counter colorants are ineffective but you can create your own dye recipe to color your grout while maintaining most of the strength. The article that's presented here will show you how to make your own grout dye.

Step 1 - Select Color

When you choose your colors to dye grout always choose one that is solid and is a standard color like red, black, yellow, or blue. You also need to use acrylic paints. When you buy your grout only purchase grout that is completely white.

Step 2 - Mix Paint

To make the dye for the grout begin with your base acrylic paint color. To this acrylic paint add the powdered colorant. Stir until combined and the colorant is dissolved. Adding more colorant will increase the color as will adding more paint. Work with the mixture until you achieve your desired color.

Step 3 - Dye the Grout

With the grout dye made you can now color the grout. Mix the grout according to the package but just shy of peanut butter consistency. Add the dye to it and finish mixing.
