Pegboard shelves can add organization to your home. When you make your own shelves, you can construct them to whatever size you want. A custom fit allows you to put them in any location in your home or workshop.
Step 1 – Prepare the Pegboard Shelves
Begin by preparing the pegboard shelves for use. In order to do this, you will need to cut either a 1-by-4-inch or a 1-by-6-inch board, depending on the depth you desire for the shelf. You can cut the boards to whatever size you wish, although you should measure the area first so you can fit the pegboard shelves correctly into their allotted space.
After you have cut the wood to the right size and shape, you will need to sand it.
Step 2 – Position the Pegboard Shelves
Put the pegboard shelves against the wall where you will hang them. With a pencil, mark on the wood where you will insert the hooks to hang the shelf from the pegboard.
Step 3 – Drill Holes
Where your pencil marks are, you will need to drill the holes with a 1/4-inch bit. You will need to drill through so that the screws will be able to go into the studs on the other side of the wall.
Step 4 – Hang the Pegboard Shelves
You will now need to hang your shelves. Insert the hooks in the holes you drilled. Then insert the hooks in their proper holes on your pegboard wall. If the shelf sits at an angle, you may want to give it a gentle tug to bend the hooks and level the shelf.
If you wish to paint your shelves, you should do this before you hang them. You will need to allow a day for the paint to completely dry before you attempt to hang the shelves. Keep them in a well-ventilated area while they dry.
