How to Make Your Garage Door Opener Quiet
Making a garage door opener quiet isn't a difficult task. There can be several reasons the door is noisy. Here's a quick guide of what you should check if your door is loud and annoying.
Step 1 - Check the Hardware
Nuts and bolts can become loose with regular usage. This can create clinking noises that can be annoying. Take your wrench and screwdriver and check the bolts and nuts all around. Also, check the garage door track for loose pieces. Tighten any that may have become loosened.
Step 2 - Oil the Moving Parts
The drive chain, pulleys, and track can all cause noise. A light coating of oil can resolve this problem. The easiest method is to use motor oil and an old rag. Don't use too much oil, as this can create additional problems.
Step 3 - Clean the Rollers
Another common cause of garage door noise is a dirty hinge roller. This can be easily corrected. You will want to loosen the nuts to pull them out. Use the degreaser to clean the hinges. Wipe them down well so they are completely dried. Reinstall these and make sure the bolts are secured.
