Decorating your home can get expensive quickly. Especially if you're trying to spice up the rooms in your home and give them a little facelift, it can be tempting to drop money on new decorations.

The great news is though, you can give your home a new look without spending any more money. Chances are you have a house full of DIY supplies, great decor, and a unique idea just waiting for you.

So from one design expert to a future one, here are our tips for upgrading your home without spending a penny.

Shop Your Space

We love going into a home decor store as much as the next person, but we've also learned the art of shopping our space. Shopping your space simply means looking around your home for decor items in one room that might work well in another.

You’ve probably got a pretty well-defined style even if you don't realize it. Because you've been purchasing things you like, there's a good chance many of the things in your home will work in multiple rooms.

When you take off your blinders and let yourself reimagine what pieces of decor could be, you open yourself to a world of possibilities.

If you're having a hard time rearranging your shelves, take everything off and walk around your home and see what other decor pieces you could move to the shelves and then take the decor pieces from the shelves and move them to the other rooms.

Recycling your decor in this manner keeps your home looking fresh all year round and gives you the satisfaction of a newly decorated room that costs you nothing.

Get Rid Of Things

Sounds counterintuitive, right? But in fact, decluttering your home can give you the fresh look that you have been craving. Sometimes when we get so caught up in decorating our space we overcrowd and over clutter.

Fantastic interiors are all about editing—taking what you love and editing it down to what works perfectly. You probably got a lot of good stuff, but do you have a lot of great stuff?

When you take the time to get rid of things that don't make you happy or don't work in the space or just aren't that great, you leave yourself with a well-edited room. Believe it or not, this is one of the first steps we take to reinvent the home on a budget.

Make a trip to your local thrift store and donate all of those old items that no longer serve your home, and you're likely to find that your space feels reinvigorated in the process.

If you need a little help decluttering, we recommend trying the Marie Kondo method. It's one of our favorites and it works for us every time.

Deep Clean

Sometimes the space in our home just starts feeling a little drab and dull because it needs a good deep clean. Deep cleaning a space can give it the sparkle that it's lacking and give you a chance to declutter in the process.

While we would recommend cleaning your home regularly, deep cleaning is a little different. Deep cleaning your space once every few months might be exactly what you're looking for to give your room a new lease on life. If you’ve got the supplies around your home, this trick costs you nothing.

Rearrange the Furniture

Our last free home decor tip is to rearrange your furniture. If you're feeling stuck in your space and you don't want to spend money on an overhaul, try rearranging your furniture. If you've got DIY supplies laying around, go ahead and repaint something or refinish something.

If you don't have DIY supplies laying around, or you don't want to refinish furniture, simply rearrange it. Even switching things around a little bit can be enough to give your home a new look really quickly.

And while we don't recommend rearranging your furniture every 15 minutes, find something you like that will stand the test of time.... or at least the test of the next few months.
