Improving the looks of your home with exterior window shutters is affordable and a quick way to change the look of your home. Not only that, but depending on the type of shutter it may even increase the value of your home. It is not a difficult task. Always remember the rule of thumb of measuring twice and cutting once. Although you may not be cutting, you need to measure a few times and make sure you get the same measurements each time. This measurement is for a single window.
Step 1 - Getting Ready to Measure
First you will need to know what you need to measure. You will need to measure the width and height of the windows. The width is measured to the interior of the window not to the outside of the sill. When you measure the height, you measure both sides and take the smallest measurement. In older homes the windows are not always square.
Step 2 - Measuring
First measure the width of the window. Divide this by two and this is the width of each of your shutters. Remember to measure the height in both sides and take the smallest of the measurements. This will be the height of the shutters. Whoever you are ordering your shutters from will have a worksheet that will explain the different types of windows and measurements.
