How to Paint a Metal-Framed Medicine Cabinet

What You'll Need
Degreaser solution
Fine-grit sandpaper
Masking tape

Painting a metal-framed medicine cabinet requires good preparation. Ensure that all surfaces are ready to accept the coating you will apply. Having the right tools and materials is also essential.

Step 1 – Clean the Frame

Clean the cabinet frame thoroughly with a degreasing cleaner and rinse it with a damp cloth. Let the framed medicine cabinet dry properly before you use the sandpaper.

Step 2 – Mask Off the Frame

Mask off the wall and mirrored doors so the paint does not get onto the wrong areas.

Step 3 – Paint the Framed Medicine Cabinet

Apply an undercoat and let it dry before you put on the second coat. If the cabinet is dark, you will probably need two coats, but if it's light, you may only need one. Use your eyes to judge your need. As you paint the framed medicine cabinet, keep the brush strokes straight and neat.

Step 4 – Allow Drying Time

Leave the framed medicine cabinet to dry before you peel off the masking tape. If you see any areas that the tape has been marked with paint, you can use a utility knife to run gently down between the paint and tape to separate them and then peel the tape off safely.
