How to Paint Door Casings

What You'll Need
Slotted screwdriver
Painter's tape

If your home features any door casings that are in need of a fresh coat of paint, you may be wondering how to go about applying it. Fortunately, with a few run-of-the-mill painting tools, your door casings can be painted in no time.

Step 1 - Prep Your Door Casing

Before applying your paint, you will need to detach the door from its hinges. This can be accomplished by using a slotted screwdriver and a hammer to gently tap the hinge pins out of place. Next, separate the casing from the surrounding area by placing your painter's tape around the casing's edges. Failure to securely seal off the soon-to-be-painted area will result in out-of-place smudges and paint drips.

Step 2 - Apply Your Paint

Having made the necessary preparations, you're ready to begin painting your door casing. Begin this step by using your paintbrush to apply paint to your casing in smooth, vertical strokes. To avoid paint drips, make a point of not overloading your brush. Once your initial coat has fully dried, apply a second coat in the exact same manner, then promptly remove your painter's tape. To ensure that you don't disturb the paint while it is drying, abstain from reattaching your door until the second coat has been given ample time to dry.
