The humidity level in your garage could cause you a lot of problems in your home. You will find that knowing how to keep the humidity regulated in your garage is a great way for you to be able to prevent any issues that humidity can cause. Humidity can cause your home to be extremely warm. Whenever you come in from the garage you will find that your home will get the air that is in there. It also seeps through the door. This can cause a lot of condensation and creaky floors, even allergies. That is why the humidity in your garage is something that should be monitored.
Step 1 - Use a Dehumidifier
A dehumidifier is an easy way for you to keep your home as well as your garage humidity free. You will find that this is something that a lot of people will use in their homes if they have very humid households.
Many people do not want to spend the money on one just to put it in their garage, however, your garage is just as much a part of your house as your kitchen. You will need to make sure that you are able to keep it at a comfortable level because if you don’t it will eventually wreak havoc on the rest of your home. Make sure that the dehumidifier that you get for your garage is sturdier than one you may have for your house. Know the square footage of your garage so you can get a dehumidifier that can handle it.
Step 2 - Try Exhaust Fans
An exhaust fan is something that may take a little bit extra work but is well worth it in the end. Installing one in your garage may not be something that you wish to do. However, you can install one in the area that is in the room next to the garage. While installing one in your garage is doable and not uncommon, installing one in the surrounding areas is also a good idea. You will be able to make sure that the humidity in the garage is not getting into your home. This is something that you may want to consider doing for a more long term effect.
Step 3 - Use a Hygrometer
It is always important that you are able to check the humidity in your garage so that you know if it is bad. You may think that you will be able to tell just by how it feels in the garage. Knowing the exact number is even better. Once it gets to a certain point you can get the exhaust fan going or get a dehumidifier for the area. Typically, you are looking for the hygrometer to say nothing more than 45. If it is higher than this you should do something about it as soon as possible.
