Due to harsh weather conditions, there comes a time when you need to remove porcelain slate tile from the roof, or you may simply want to give your roof a new look. Removing the porcelain slate tiles from the roof is relatively simple, if you have the right tools. Care must be given when removing the tiles, so that the roof or the tiles are not damaged. Follow the step-by-step guide below.
Tools and Materials Needed for the Job
- Dust mask
- Safety glasses
Step 1 – Remove the Grout
Wear dust mask and protective glasses before embarking on the project. Remove the grout by using a grinder. If you are replacing a portion of the damaged porcelain slate tiles on the roof, make sure you do not hit the surrounding tiles. If you are removing all the tiles, you do not need to worry about this.
Step 2 – Break the Porcelain Slate Tile
Begin breaking the tiles with a hammer and chisel starting from the center of the tile and working outwards to the edges. Be sure to remove all pieces of the tiles, and chisel underneath so that any thinset mortar is removed.
Step 3 – Clean the Area
Clean the entire area of the roof where the tiles were removed with a brush. Remove the pieces of porcelain slate tile and dust thoroughly.
