Using a window insulation kit is a great way to provide extra insulation without a lot of mess and fuss. There are several different methods that can be used to insulate a window, of which window insulation kits are the most common and most economical. There sometimes comes a time when you want to remove the insulation and apply new material. In order to remove the film, you will need to do the following.
Step 1 - Warm the Window
Warm the window like you did when you applied the window insulation in the first place. Start at one corner of the window and warm a 2' by 2' square area.
Step 2 - Scrape and Pull
Using a gentle scraping device made of a material that will not ruin your window. The film should easily come off and pull right from the window. If you are having trouble pulling the film or scraping it away from the window then use some additional heat.
Step 3 - Wash and Dry
Once you have removed the film, wash the window thoroughly and dry with a lint-free cloth or rag. If there is extra adhesive left on the window, you will want to get an adhesive remover and remove it.
