Having a chandelier makes for a great addition to the home, but over time you may need to repair chandelier issues that arise. The article that follows will show you how to repair chandelier problems that are common.

Step 1 - Socket Maintenance

The sockets of a chandelier can oxidize, which can cause a bad contact between the bulb and the contacts. Remove the bulbs from the chandelier arms and place them aside in a safe area. Pour a small amount of the alcohol into a shallow bowl. Dip the cotton swab into the alcohol and scrub the contacts in the sockets. Once the alcohol has dried you can return the bulbs.

Step 2 - Broken Arm

Place the craft block over an unbroken arm to create an impression. Line the block up with the broken arm and put the broken piece in place. Wind the hanging wire around the loose end and attach it to the top of the chandelier.Make sure it is tight and lined up. Loosen the wires so a 1/2 inch gap appears. Glue the broken area and tighten the wire to join the pieces. Allow the glue to set for at least a day before removing the mold.

Step 3 - Rewiring

Turn off the electric and remove the decorative center cap to access the wires. Disconnect them from the chandelier. Remove the socket and purchase an identical one. Thread wire through the arm and attach it to the contact points, then cover it with electrical tape. Trim the wire and attach the end to the new socket. Replace the cap and coverings.

  • Step 2

Using an intact arm as a guide, create a mold from the craft block to hold the broken arm in place against the chandelier.

  • Step 3

Attach the broken arm to the chandelier using the mold. Make sure it fits together perfectly.

  • Step 4

Secure the broken arm tightly by winding hanging wire around the loose end and attaching to the top of the chandelier. Make sure that it fits snugly and remains lined up without assistance.

  • Step 5

Loosen the wires to allow about half an inch of space between the broken arm and the chandelier.

  • Step 6

Glue the arm to the chandelier. Re-tighten the wires so the arm fits into place. Wipe away any excess glue and allow to set for 24 to 36 hours.
