The hot water mixing valve in your washing machine controls the flow of hot and cold water. The valve allows hot or cold water into the basin of the machine depending on the water temperature setting you chose for the cycle. If the hot water mixing valve in your machine is defective, use this guide to learn how to replace it and fix the problem.
Step 1 - Buy the Replacement Valve
Purchase a replacement valve from an appliance repair center based on the model of your machine.
Step 2 - Shut Off the Power
Unplug the power cord for the washing machine from the electrical outlet.
Step 3 - Remove Water Hoses
Disconnect the water supply hoses from the rear of the machine. Use a bucket to catch water in the hoses.
Step 4 - Remove the Faulty Valve
Remove the service panel on the rear of the machine. Then disconnect the hoses that are connected to the valve. Also remove any wires or harnesses that connect the hot water mixing valve to the control or pressure switches. If the switches are connected with terminal screws, use a screwdriver to remove them. Unscrew the valve.
Step 5 - Install the New Valve
Set the new hot water mixing valve into place and secure it with screws. Then reconnect the switch wiring and the hoses. Reconnect the supply hoses on the rear of the washing machine and plug the machine back into the electrical outlet.
