Accidents happen, and it can happen to your roller blind fabric. Stains are one of the worst things that can happen to a fabric used to block out sunlight, as it can not only look bad, but the sunlight can cause the stain to become deeply etched upon the fabric. The best thing to do when you have a staining accident is to immediately wipe down the shade, but if you find that it has happened an hour or more ago, then you will need to take more drastic action. Follow a few simple rules to help you clean up that mark without damaging the fabric.
Step 1 - Take Down the Blind

The first thing that you can do is to take down the blind from its roller. Do this by taking out any rods carefully, so you don't tear the fabric, and then lifting the roller at the top out of its place. If you have had the roller itself screwed into the top of the blind system, then remove this by unscrewing using a common screwdriver. You should then be able to free the roller of all the mechanics, and just lift it down. Once the roller is at ground level, take off the fabric, and leave the rods and parts of the machine to one side.
Step 2 - Rub the Stain
Place a little bit of water into a pot, and put your fabric into it. You can try soaking the fabric by itself for a few hours, but you may find that you need to add a little bit of soap to the mix. Rub the soap directly on to the roller blind fabric, and then soak the material in the water. Try rubbing a little bit of the stained fabric against another part, and also use a toothbrush or similar tool to grind at the mark.
Step 3 - Try Stain Remover
One of the most important tools in your armory will be the stain remover. Liquid removers such as Vanish can be applied directly to the material, and then the fabric can be popped into the washing machine. Put it on a very low spin, at 30 degrees, so you will not run the risk of causing the color of the material to run. You may also try running the fabric under the hot tap for a few minutes after the stain remover has been applied.
Step 4 - Leave to Soak
If these methods don't work, then you may find that leaving your fabric to soak for a few hours in warm soapy water will help the stain to move. Gently prod the fabric from time to time so that the water is circulating. You can also try carpet or sofa cleaners after the material has dried out. After all these remedies, wash the fabric thoroughly and leave it to dry before refitting onto the roller blind. You can use the same rods and rollers that you removed earlier when putting the blind back up.
