A double handle shower faucet is something that can easily be replaced by you. You will find that it is not too terribly different than replacing a single handle shower faucet. As long as you have the proper tools and know how you will be able to get the job done quickly and easily. You will find that regardless of what it is made out of, the overall steps of replacing your double handle shower faucet are basically the same.
Materials Needed:
Phillips Head Screwdriver
Flathead Screwdriver
Step 1 – Turn off Water
The first and most important thing that you are going to have to do is turn the water off to the area that you will be working in. You will find that you may need to simply turn off the water to your entire home. Make sure that you open the faucets up completely so that the water will be able to escape completely. If you turn off the water to your entire home, then do this with all of the faucets so that no water or air can get trapped in the pipes whenever you turn the water back on.
Step 2 – Handle Cap
You will first need to get the handle’s cap removed so that you can get to the retaining screw of the handles. You will be able to find the cap of the handle right in the middle of the actual handle on each one. You will use your flathead screwdriver to pry the cap off of its handle. Make sure that you leave the caps in a place where they will not get lost.
Step 3 – Screw
Once the caps have been taken off, you will need to take off the screws. This one screw per handle will be what attaches your faucet valve and handles together. Make sure that you use a Phillips head screwdriver for these screws. Once you have removed them, place them in the same spot as the caps so that they will not get lost.
Step 4 – Remove Handle
Once you have the caps and the screws removed from each of your handles, you are now ready to remove the actual handles. In order to do this, you will need to get the handle pulled away from the valve stem of the faucet. Pull slowly but with force so that you will be able to remove it without damaging anything.
Step 5 – Replacement Valves
You are now ready to get your replacement handles slid onto the handle of the stem of your faucet. In order to do this, you will first get the handle’s retaining screw inserted in through the middle of each of your handles. Once you have done this, you will need to get the screws tightened up using your Phillips head screwdriver.
Step 6 – Finish Up
You are now ready to put the cap back on each of your handles. In order to do this, you will press the cap back into place firmly. Once you have done this, turn the water back on.
