Whether your freezer is chest type, upright, or part of your refrigerator, if it is to function efficiently, you will need it to have a tight freezer door seal. If necessary, install a new one. The steps below will guide you in doing this.
Step 1 – Check for Seal Efficiency
Check for evidence that your seal leaks. Telltale signs include rapid buildup of frost, excessive freezer burn, uneven food thawing.
Step 2 - Seal Replacement Preparation
Before beginning the process of seal replacement, collect needed tools and materials. If your freezer uses seal clips, be sure you buy them when you buy your new freezer seal.
Step 3 – Remove Defective Seal
If your seal is attached with screws, locate screws and remove them. If the seal is secured with adhesive, pull the seal from the freezer, and remove any residual adhesive with a plastic scraper.
Step 4 – Install the New Seal
Using appropriate adhesive or the screws you removed from the old seal, install the new seal.
Step 5 – Test the New Seal
Place your light into the freezer, close the freezer door, and check around the door seal for light that is escaping through the seal.
