The condition of the aluminum fascia boards on your home can greatly affect the look and the character that your home projects. Owing to its location at the breaking point between your walls and the roofline, the fascia is one of the first things that people notice they look at your home. As the home represents the kind of people that live in it, you better get your aluminum fascia in order or people will think that you are a topsy-turvy person. Fascias that are beyond repairs should be removed and replaced immediately. To replace the aluminum fascia boards in your home, here is what you should do.
Step 1- Remove the Old Aluminum Fascia Boards
Put on your working gloves and your protective eyewear before you start removing nails from the fascia board. To remove the old aluminum fascia boards, pull the nails holding it in place using a flat bar nail puller. Put all the old nails inside a box or container and make sure that you do not leave of these nails lying around on the ground.
Step 2 – Measure and Cut
Measure the area which new fascia boards and then cut the appropriate length of aluminum fascia boards. If you have a long roof pitch, you may need to use more than one piece of aluminum sheet.
Step 3 – Prepare the Aluminum for Installation
After cutting the aluminum boards, you may now prepare it for installation. To do this, punch holes on the aluminum where you want to put the nails or the screws on. Yes, putting nails directly on the fascia without burring holes first is possible but this procedure may make it more difficult for you to hang the fascia especially if you are working all by yourself.
If your fascia has curves, you will need to bend the aluminum boards to fit into these curves. To do this, use a brake and gently bend the aluminum to avoid damaging it.
Step 4 – Hang the Fascia Boards
Use a ladder to reach the area where you will hang the fascia boards. If you are working alone, you may use a piece of rope to hold one end of the fascia while you work on the other end. This way, it will be easier for you to hang the fascia boards accordingly. After putting the fascia board in position, press fascia so that it wraps around the bottom portion of the soffit. You may tap the aluminum with a hammer to make sure that it lays flat on the surface. After wrapping the aluminum on the soffit, put the nails or the screws in place. Make sure that the nails or screws are properly installed so to prevent the boards from being ripped off by strong winds.
Step 5 – Attach the Gutter Hangers
After installing the aluminum fascia boards, you may now attach the gutter hangers on.
