The hinges on your deck storage bench can sometimes come away from the rest of the bench, or they may become corroded and stiff due to exposure to the elements. In these cases, your best option is to remove the old hinges, and replace them with some brand new ones. Adding new hinges to your deck storage bench is not very difficult, and can be easily managed by following a few steps.
Step 1 - Remove the Old Hinges
Open up your deck storage bench, and unscrew the old hinges. You should hold up the lid of the storage bench with one hand while you unscrew the hinges from the lid first. Take off the lid, and then unscrew the hinges which are attached to the main body of the deck storage bench. You should then remove the hinges. If the screws are still good, keep them, but if they are rusty or the threads have thinned, dispose of them.
Step 2 - Add New Hinges
Take the new hinge, and spread a little wood glue on the back. Press this into the base of the deck storage bench, and then add screws through the holes. Add more glue to the top of the hinge, and screw the lid back into position. Use wood putty around the hinges to keep them water tight.
