Pocket door rollers can be found in the kitchen and bathroom, and are used to move pocket doors out of small spaces. You can get a good pocket door roller in any local hardware store. Getting this job done doesn’t need the assistance of a professional if you have some basic home improvement skills. All you have to do is follow a few simple guidelines.
Step 1 – Removing the Old Roller
The first step is to take out the old roller. You will need to open the door as wide as possible, and find the base where the roller is. Unscrew the frame which keeps the roller in place, and then remove these metal brackets. You will need these and the screws they came with when you are fitting the new roller. You can remove only one side if you wish. Once the frame is removed, you should then take the roller out and discard it. Check the frame for signs of damage.
Step 2 – Installing the New Roller
Match your roller with the position of the previous one. This will give you guidelines about where to place it. Push the roller into the area, then position the metal screw so that it will be held in place when the bracket is reinstalled.
Step 3 – Reinstall the Bracket
Replace the bracket. Line up the bracket with the holes into which it was originally installed, and screw in each side until it is secure. Tighten the screws until your bracket is holding the roller in place. You should be able to move the roller freely, but not too easily, so tighten or loosen your bracket screws accordingly. Place some oil around the roller and the brackets.
Step 4 – Finishing
Before you finish the project you will have to try opening and closing your door several times. This will ensure that the roller can move up and down the full range of your door without problems, and will also cover the roller and its path in the oil you added. Maintain your roller regularly by adding oil and checking that it can still slide unimpeded across the whole range of your door's track,
