When you find that one of the vertical blind slats on your window treatment in need of replacing, a homeowner can replace one very quickly without any problems. Unlike the traditional horizontal blinds, vertical blind slats are easily removed from the clip that they rest on.

Step 1 - Open Blinds

Using the drawstring open the vertical blind slats from a flat "closed" position to an "open" position, where the edges are sticking out from the window.

Step 2 - Unscrew Chain

Some vinyl vertical blinds have a chain that holds them together near the top of the blind. This will be held in place by a small screw on the first slat. Unscrew this and thread through the slats until you get to the one that needs to be replaced.

Step 3 - Remove Slat from Hanger

Look up on the top of the vertical slat and you will see a small plastic tab that holds the vertical blind slat in place. In most instances, you can easily remove the slat by lifting the slat up and removing it from the hook.

Step 4 - Place new Slat on Hanger

Lift the new slat into position and place on the hook. Thread the chain back through the hole and the rest of the slats in the line. Attach the screw with the screwdriver. Close and open the blinds a few times to make sure that the new slat sits correctly in line.
