Silicone sealant is an important part of many repairs. Without it, your hard work could fail, causing leaks and further damage to your home. Unfortunately, silicone sealant sometimes comes in contact with your skin, in which case it is very difficult to remove. Follow these steps to do so safely and efficiently.

If your skin has recently come into contact with silicone adhesive sealant, you may be wondering how to go about removing it. If so, read on to learn everything you'll need to know about safely removing silicone adhesive sealant from skin.

Step 1 - Prep Your Skin

Begin the silicone adhesive sealant removal process by vigorously scrubbing the affected area with soap and water. After 3 or 4 washings, use your hands to peel away any loosened pieces of sealant before continuing on to the next step.

Step 2 - Apply Your Nail Polish Remover

Now that you've carried out the preliminary washing, soak a cotton ball in nail polish remover and proceed to rub it over the affected area. Make sure to perform this step in a well-ventilated environment, as the fumes emitted by most brands of nail polish remover can be overpowering, particularly if you're exposed to them for long periods. Also make sure acetone is an active ingredient in your nail polish remover, as this particular chemical will play a pivotal role in getting the sealant off your skin. Continue to rub your skin with nail polish remover until the sealant begins to loosen, at which point you will need to peel it off.

Note: Only acetone nail polish remover will work. While a common ingredient, check the label to ensure you do not have a special non-acetone nail polisher remover.

Step 3 - Perform a Post-Removal Cleaning

Once all the sealant has been washed away, clean the previously affected area of your skin with soap and water. Make sure all traces of sealant are gone before deeming the removal process a success.
