How to Sand a Wood Floor Part 2

A sanded wood floor ensures an even and smooth floor. Our house is our most prized procession. Good flooring plays an extremely important role in shaping up one’s house. Flooring should be sturdy as well as beautiful. A lot can be done with a good wooden floor. During winters, you can take out your carpet to cover and decorate these wooden floors.

While in summers, you can simply roll up the carpets and reveal gleaming wood floor. At times, the wooden floor gets scratched and dirty. That’s when they need to be recoated. Step One: Ensuring the Machine and Floor are in Place

Remember, that a sand machine is a powerful device. Any loosened nut or screw will get destroyed by the sand machine. Hence, it is wise to check the wooden floor for any lose screws or nuts. If you happen to find any, then tighten it using a screw driver to keep them in place.

Step Two: Checking for Scratches

Check for any kind of holes or major scratch. Before using a sanding machine use a small putty knife to fill in these holes. This will even out the wooden surface and give a cleaner and smoother surface to work.

Step Three: Moving the Sand Machine

Hold a sanding machine in 45 degree angle and move it across the floor through the entire room. The 45 degree angle is suggested, so that even if your floor is slightly uneven, the sand paper will not get stuck between them thanks to the angle.

Step Four: Second Round of Sanding

Start again from where you started the first time to overlap the entire floor. As the motion and direction is same, it will ensure that all missed out places are covered. Moreover, the floor will also have a smoother look. This time however use a finer sand paper.

Step Five: Sanding Corners

Take out the small sanding machine and use to sand the corners, side of the stairs or any edges in the room. This machine is small and can be easily navigated to small corners where the big one would not reach.

Step Six: Third Round of Sanding

Finally, we come to the last stage of this process. Use the finest quality of sand paper and repeat the entire process of step two. This final stage will prepare your floor to withstand any kind of coating you may wish for.

Step Seven: Applying Wood Primer

Now, that your floor is smooth and even use a wood primer to coat it. Once it dries, use a wood varnish to cover the same. This will protect your precious floor from getting scratched or dirty.

Expert Tip:

Remember, never to stop or start the sanding machine when the belt is in direct contact with the floor. The impact will damage your wooden floor. The idea is to hold the machine and move its belt upwards when you start it or stop it.
