Teak wood is a very low maintenance wood and is among the more preferred choices for outdoor furniture. Teak is very easy to look after and looks beautiful as well as being durable. A few simple techniques for sanding can be used, which will help bring out the very best in teak and teak furniture.
Step 1 – Cleaning
Begin by cleaning the furniture and ridding it of any dirt, dust, and debris. As the teak must be fully dry in order to sand it, you should leave it in a dry place for around twenty-four hours.
Step 2 – Sanding
Use only fine-grit sandpaper when sanding teak. Teak is a hardwood that reacts well to weather conditions. It has a fine grain, so sand in the direction that the grain is going. Do not sand across the grain because you will scar the wood. You can use a sanding wedge to get into those hard to reach corners and places.
Step 3 – Wipe and Repeat
Wipe any excess dust from the teak wood with a tack cloth. Sand again if needed and then clean the dust off. You may choose to re-wash the teak wood before continuing with your project.
