How to Seal Exterior Plywood
Whether you're creating a brand new exterior project, or re-doing one, following the steps below will show you how to seal exterior plywood to give you a beautiful smooth finish.
Step 1 - Get Rid of the Old
Using your putty knife, scrape all chipped paint off the surface. This step helps in preventing the new paint from chipping too quickly.
Step 2 - Double Check
Sand any remaining old paint off the surface using 80-120 grit sandpaper. This will give the surface a smooth finished look.
Step 3 - Get It Clean
Wash the entire surface (power washing is best). This helps to clear any dust or debri before painting.
Before performing the next step, allow the surface to completely dry.
Step 4 - Close the gaps
Using a latex caulk, close up any seams or cracks, and wipe excess caulk before going further.
Step 5 - Apply the Primer
Using your roller & tray, apply a coat of primer to your surface, making sure to clean up any lines or excess primer.
Step 6 - Finish It Up
Using your rinsed and clean roller & tray, roll a coat of exterior latex paint onto your surface, and allow to dry completely.
There you have it! A finished exterior project, and a job well done!
