How to Seal Self Adhesive Vinyl Tiles

If you do not have the time and money to install ceramic tiles, self-adhesive vinyl tiles are a great option. They resemble ceramic tiles, but at the same time, they are easy to maintain. The biggest disadvantage of these tiles is that they have a porous surface, which will cause accumulation of dust and dirt. The best solution to this problem is applying a sealer.

Tools and Materials Needed:

Broom
Mop
Water
Bucket
Sponge mop
Vinyl composition tile sealant
Painter’s tape or masking tape

Step 1 – Sweep the Floor

The self-adhesive vinyl tile needs to be clean before you apply sealer. Start from one end and sweep the entire floor thoroughly with the broom.

Step 2 – Mop the Floor

Fill your bucket with plain water. Dip your mop in water and squeeze it to remove excess water. Mop the entire floor, starting from one corner. Then, allow the floor to dry.

Step 3 – Prepare the Floor and Sponge Mop for Sealing

Cover the boundaries of the floor with painter’s tape. Dip your sponge mop in the sealer. Squeeze out excess sealer. Make sure the mop is not dripping.

Step 4 – Apply the Sealant on the Floor

Place the mop at one corner of the floor and apply sealant on the sides by moving the mop backward. Then, turn around and repeat the same process in the opposite direction. Continue doing this until the entire area is covered. The sealant will dry within 4 to 5 hours. Reapply again and leave the self-adhesive vinyl tile to dry.
