Spray-painting cabinet doors is an economical way of restoring the appeal of your cabinet. All it takes is a few simple guidelines that you can easily follow in order to paint your cabinet by yourself.

Prepare Cabinet Doors for Painting

Wear your protective gear. Use the screwdriver to detach the cabinet doors from the cabinet. Remove the cabinet door hinges. Take the sand paper and smooth the doors to get all the lacquer off in order to enable the paint to adhere to the surface. Take the warm water and the dry TSP and clean the doors. Rinse the doors thoroughly and leave them to dry overnight.

Apply Primer

Cover your working area and any adjacent walls with layers of newspaper. Ensure that you are well covered by the protective mask. Prop up the cabinet doors on pieces of wood or on the adjacent walls. Pick up the spray primer and shake it thoroughly, then spray the doors on all sides, ensuring that all areas are covered. Leave the primer to dry for a period of 10 to 30 minutes. Always hold the nozzle of the spray can about 12 inches from the doors. This helps to avoid creating bubbles and prevents any stray drips.

Spray Paint

Shake the spray paint can well and spray the cabinet doors from left to right to ensure that your strokes are even. Spray thin coats to make your work look more evenly spread and to avoid drips and runs on the doors. After the first coat, leave it to dry completely before applying the second coat. After the second coat is dry, spray the lacquer onto the doors to protect them against scratches and give them an overall appeal. Leave the doors to dry for one day before reattaching them back to the cabinet.

Clean Door Hinges

Take the metal cleaner and pour it into a container. Place the hinges inside the cleaner and leave them for one hour. Remove the hinges and place them on a piece of cloth then brush them with a wire brush. Dry them off with a piece of cloth then take the spray paint and spray it over the hinges. Allow one side to dry before flipping them over and spraying the other side.

Reattach Hinges

Align the holes of the hinges with those of the cabinet doors and screw them on. Ensure that the hinges are tight.

Re-attach Cabinet Doors

Take your cabinet doors and hang them back onto the cabinets. Screw the door hinges onto the cabinets firmly.
