How to Strip Paint from Wood Paneled Walls

Wood paneled walls may be repainted for a fresh look. To accomplish this you will first need to strip the existing paint. Sanding the paint off may damage the wood and it may also take a long time, so you can opt for a faster method using paint stripper.

You Will Need:

  • Chemical paint stripper
  • Paintbrush
  • Plastic scraper tool
  • Stripping pad or scrub
  • Sponges
  • Cloths

Step 1 – Prepare the Workspace

The paint stripper has a powerful odor, so you should work in a ventilated area. Open the windows or install a fan in the room in which you will be working.

Get some work clothes, as well as gloves, glasses and a mask. Use some old newspapers to avoid getting paint stripper on your floors.

Step 2 – Spread the Paint Stripper

You may buy paint stripper, which you should spread over the wood panels using a paintbrush. If the paint stripper is in a spray can, simply spray it, making sure to cover all areas of the wood paneled walls.

The solution needs 30 minutes to 12 hours to set in. Follow the instructions that come wth the product.

Step 3 – Strip the Paint

The paint can be easily removed once the paint stripper starts to work. Use a plastic scraping tool and finish with a striping pad to ensure you cleaned all painted areas.
