How to Thoroughly Clean a Changing Table Pad

It is not only important to have a changing table pad in a home where there is a baby, but it is equally important to maintain these pads in order to keep your baby healthy–not to mention reducing odors in your nursery. Tips for cleaning your pad are as follows:

Tip 1 – Changing Pad Options

Most changing tables have a plastic pad with a sheet-like covering. When diapering your baby you will discover that this covering soon becomes soiled, even with your using the utmost caution. Rather than having to machine wash a soiled covering several times a week, place a cloth diaper or small hand towel under your baby’s bottom.

Tip 2 – Immediate Cleaning

When the protective cloth on your pad becomes soiled, clean it immediately. This will protect your baby from bacteria and prevent unpleasant odors in your nursery.

Tip 3 – Cleaning Solutions

Even when you are conscientious in cleaning your baby's pad, over a period of time it will usually become soiled. When this happens, remove the fabric covering and wipe off the pad with soapy water. Then, wipe it again with a commercial disinfectant or a solution of bleach and water. Dry the pad and replace the covering.
