After several months of use, the louvers in plantation shutters may gradually loosen, failing to close effectively. Follow the tips below to tighten your loose plantation shutters.
Step 1 - Find the Tension Adjust Mechanism
You can adjust the shutter tension in plantation shutters with either screws located on several of the louvers, or by small nylon pins. Both of these will need tightening periodically.
Step 2 - Adjust the Tension Screws a Pair at a Time
You can tighten the tension screws on the shutters by turning them once fully clockwise on each side. Test the louvers after tightening each pair of screws to ensure you have made the correct adjustment.
Step 3 - Adjust the Tension Pins
Find each of the nylon tension pins and, using a pair of needle-nose pliers, turn the pins slightly clockwise to tighten them. Adjust the pins a pair at a time, to ensure you are creating equal tension on both sides. Check the louvers to confirm that they close fully once you have adjusted all the tension pins.
Step 4 - Check the Staples in the Tilt Rod
Examine the shutter tilt rod. If some staples have fallen out, re-staple the tilt rod with metal staples.
