Roman shades are used as a window covering for protection from sun rays. A cord helps keep the shade at the desired height. These shades come in a variety of different designs and colors. Roman shades are made from different kinds of wood and fabrics. While trimming roman shades to fit your window, always keep in mind the point of windows wideness. The procedure for successfully trimming of roman shades for windows is mentioned below.

Step 1 - Right Measurements

Take the measurement of the window with the help of a pencil or tape before trimming the roman shade. Once done, re-check before moving to the next step.

Step 2 - Tools

The power table saw must be set in a safe location. The shade must be rolled tightly and secured to a wooden headrail in different places as per the length of the tape. Ensure the power table saw is turned off. Sand the headrail edge with fine-grained sandpaper.

Step 3 - Trimming

Lay the shade and the headrail on a flat surface and ask someone to hold one of the ends.

Step 4 - Trimming Metal Headrail

Cut the metal headrail to the needed size with a hacksaw. Mark a line with a marker and score the cut line. Move the hacksaw smoothly with slight pressure until the metal is cut. Shave all edges with a power grinder.

Step 5 - Desired Length

With the help of pencil, measure the length of the shade and mark it at the desired end-point. Use masking tape around the shade and add 4 inches to the length. Use a second row of masking tape over the cutting line.

Step 6 - Trimming Length

Use wire snips or cutters to cut the thickness of the shade. Keep the cutter little below the lower masking tape. Remove the tape and slide the slats from the strings to the new edge. Knot the strings at the new endpoint and cover the bottom with some masking tape.

Step 7 - Replacing and Hanging

Slide the new bottom of the shade in the slat and hang the shade wherever you want to. Ensure the cords are in place.
