Wet dry vacuum cleaners were previously used for commercial purposes, for heavy duty jobs. However, recently manufacturers have been designing models in compact sizes for domestic use. Knowing how to use a wet dry vacuum cleaner can come in handy as its purpose is as multi-faceted as its name implies.
Step 1 - Remove Stagnant Water
When using the wet dry vacuum cleaner it is important to remove any stagnant or standing water from the hose. Place the hose in a bucket of water and turn on the vacuum cleaner. Then put the machine on a dry area and empty the inside drum when it fills with water.
Step 2 - Choose the Right Filter
A wet dry vacuum cleaner can be used to vacuum dust or even liquids. When changing from one task to another, it is of utmost importance to change filters. With a click of a button you can change the vacuum cleaner’s functional ability. To vacuum water and other liquids a foam filter is used. On the other hand, a paper filter is used to vacuum debris and dust particles.
Step 3 - Adjust Attachments
Every vacuum cleaner comes along with different attachments. Some are brushes which are needed to scrape off dust particles before being sucked up into the hose. Other attachments have a narrow ending to reach every nook and cranny, which allows it to clean in between pieces of furniture. Other types of attachments are adapted for cleaning mats, car seats, and more.
Having chosen the right filter and the appropriate attachment for the job at hand, you can start vacuuming the desired area, taking care to cover each part of the area in order to clean it successfully.
Step 4 - Use the Exhaust Portion
The exhaust portion is a completely different type of attachment. Most wet dry vacuum cleaners come with the ability to not only suck in air but also blow air out of the hose. Knowledge of this function may make outdoor cleaning easier. Sometimes when dealing with larger forms of debris such as leaves and particulate matter commonly found in gardens, the ideal way to clean is to move them aside, using the exhaust portion, for later collection.
Step 5 - Empty Tub
It is important to empty the tub on a regular basis, especially if you use the wet dry vacuum cleaner frequently. Usually pegs will attach the lid of the tub to the base. By unclipping the pegs you are able to remove the lid and empty the contents of the tub. The tub should be cleared immediately after vacuuming liquid waste. Stagnation of water inside the tub gives off a revolting smell eventually.
The advantage of a wet dry vacuum cleaner is that it is a versatile appliance that can easily be used domestically to facilitate the hardest of tasks. Once you have mastered its use, and by applying a touch of creativity you can perform some unconventional jobs with your wet dry vacuum cleaner such as retrieving lost keys from a drain and unclogging difficult sink drains.
