Install an Intercom Doorbell to Screen Your Guests

An intercom doorbell is a great way to screen your guests in a time when security is of utmost importance to us all. We no longer have to open our doors when we don’t know for sure who it is on the other side.

Two Basic Types

There are two basic types of an intercom doorbell. There is the traditional wired type that has been around for many years, and then there is the wireless type, relatively new to the market but every bit as good as any wired system since technology has become so advanced. In fact, the wireless type has quickly become the most popular type because of its ease of installation.

If you have an existing doorbell, there are systems out there you can purchase to convert your existing doorbell into an intercom system. It all depends on exactly what it is you want to do. We’re going on the assumption here are going to convert your existing doorbell into an intercom doorbell.

Step 1 - Choose a System

When it comes to the intercom doorbell, there are many styles to choose from. There are those that are audio only, and then there are those that have a built in video system as well. Here, you are limited only by the allotted budget as the video system is a bit more pricey than the standard audio system. You can do some looking around and make price comparisons online. It may be there is a video intercom doorbell that is well within your range.

Step 2 - Install the Outside Unit

Make sure you have disconnected the power source from the doorbell before beginning any work. Once you have done that, remove the existing doorbell button, and then connect the new unit following manufacturer instructions. After you have connected the wiring, mount the unit in place where you have chosen to do so.

Step 3 - Disconnect the Old Chimes

Next you will disconnect the old chimes. Simply disconnect the wiring and put wiring connecting caps on them as they will no longer be used.

Step 4 - Plug in the Intercom

The only thing left to do is to plug in the intercom. Depending on the system you purchased, this unit can be easily moved from room to room along with you. There are other systems as well that will allow for multiple units, and in this case, you can even speak to someone who is in another room of the house.

The technology today is wonderful, and there are a number of different options when considering an intercom doorbell. there are even smart systems that will allow you to virtually answer your door through a phone app. Do your research and decide on the one that is right for you.
