An easy way to add a welcoming touch to your garden is to install a vinyl arbor. If you can operate a cordless drill, a level, shovel and tape measure, you can easily install a vinyl arbor. These arbors will create an inviting seating area, add to the beauty of your garden or be a place for crawling flowers to find a home to grow. Building a vinyl arbor requires the use of a do it yourself kit that contains the vinyl pieces you need.
Step 1: Choose Your Location
Before rushing out and ordering your vinyl arbor you will want to know where it's going to go. Most kits come in a standard size with an average opening of 45 inches. Check around your landscaping to see where your arbor will fit. Typical areas are in between the ends of a fence, along a walkway, near a garden bench or as a stand alone focal point.
Step 2: Choose Your Vinyl Arbor
There are several different types of vinyl arbors on the market, such as rose arbors, and they can all add a beautiful impact to your landscape. With the placement in mind, the overall theme of your home and the existing garden decor, you can choose the vinyl arbor that will fit your needs.
Step 3: Take Arbor out of Package
When your vinyl arbor arrives, take it out to the area where it will be positioned and remove each piece from the package. Check the directions and make sure all the pieces are there. You don't want to get into the middle of assembly and notice that you're missing a piece.
Step 4: Lay out the Arbor
Lay out the arbor in the way that it will be assembled. This will give you an idea of what it will look like when finished.
Step 5: Prepare Ground
Vinyl arbors come with special mounting brackets that they attach to, which are driven into the ground. Dig a small hole big enough for the ground mounting bracket and set the bracket in place. Use a level and make sure that they are perfectly plumb, or you're going to have a hard time setting it over the posts.
Step 6: Assemble Vinyl Arbor
Once the ground is prepared to receive the arbor, begin to assemble it. Follow the directions and put the arbor together using the cordless drill and any other small hand tools the directions call for. This should only take a few hours and then it will be ready to set on the ground mounting brackets.
Step 7: Install on Ground Brackets
After all the connections are secure in the assembly of the arbor, you can set it on the ground brackets. Get some help with this as you will be lifting the entire arbor. Once the posts are slid over the ground mounting brackets, make sure it fits securely and without any warping of the vinyl. Place a level alongside each post and check that everything is plumb. If it is, screw in the posts to the mounting brackets for a secure installation.
