Recent home trends are leaning toward clean, uncluttered, and modernistic decor styles. A wall-mount bathroom sink can be a great addition. Any increase in space is a bonus, especially in the bathroom. This article will describe the steps required for installing a wall-mount bathroom sink along with the list of tools and materials.
Step 1 - Find the Location for the Sink
Wall mount bathroom sinks are usually installed at a height of 30 inches from the floor. Take this measurement at the location you want to attach the sink. Depending on the type of sink, you may have to remove a section of drywall to access the wooden studs of the bathroom wall. Use a level to mark a straight line on the drywall where you will need to remove it.
Step 2 - Provide Support for the Sink
Use the drywall saw to cut through the drywall to access the wooden studs. Cut the 2x4 lumber to size to fit between the studs. This will provide blocking and support for the wall mount bathroom sink. Toenail the blocking pieces to the studs using the galvanized screws.
Step 3 - Close the Wall
Cut the drywall to size and screw it into place using the drywall screws. Use the drywall tape and joint compound to complete the drywall repair. Sand and paint the replacement drywall to match the rest of the bathroom and allow the paint to dry before moving on to the next step.
Step 4 - Attach the Mounting Bracket
Follow the manufacturer's instructions to mount the wall mount bathroom sink. Some sinks will require the use of a mounting bracket. Measure the sink installation height again and draw a mark using the level. Hold the mounting bracket against the wall at the proper height and drill a pilot hole into the wall studs.
Install the lag bolts through the wall bracket and hammer them into the pilot holes as far as they can go. Then use the socket wrench to tighten the bracket to the wall.
Step 5 - Attach the Sink
Attach the faucets and other sink hardware to the wall mount bathroom sink before attaching the sink to the wall mount bracket. Attach the sink to the bracket and secure with any mounting hardware provided by the manufacturer and check that the sink is level one more time.
Step 6 - Add Finishing Touches
Install the water supply lines and P-trap assemblies and check for leaks. Run a bead of clear or paintable caulking around the sink where it attaches to the wall. Allow this caulk to dry before painting if necessary.
Some wall mount bathroom sinks include a matching trim piece or pieces that attach below the sink and hide the water supply lines and P-trap assemblies. Mount this piece below the sink and to the wall using more lag screws according to the manufacturer's instructions.
